Full of Boys

Finding the adventure in the blues, greens and grays of life!

Books on My Shelf July 10, 2007

Sometimes I get asked what my favorite books are and what I am reading. Most of the time the questions come from someone who is raising boys. Here is a small list of books I have read and think are great for boys (and girls alike).

Wild at Heart by John Eldredge: I have read this book each time we found out we were having a little boy. It is great at understand some of the complexities of my son’s hearts as well as where their desires come from.

You Can’t Make Me But You Can Persuade Me by Cynthia Tobias: This is a wonderful book about raising a strong willed child and how to channel that characteristic into a wonderful strength.

The Way They Learn by Cynthia Tobias: This book is great for understand the differences in children and finding a way to reach each of them in unique ways.

Vital Friends by Tom Rath: This is one I personally like. I think as moms we are asked to either be friendly with everyone or keep to our inner circle. This books helps define where you need healthy relationships and I think helps you realize you don’t have to be all things to all people.

The Prayer of Jesus by Hank Hanegraaff: I am just beginning this one but I love it. It has already given me a new perspective in praying and finding intimacy with God through prayer.

I would love to hear of others you are reading!

I liked Wild at Heart too. Some of my favorites are: Beth Moore’s “Feathers from my Nest” (have tissue handy), Lisa Welchel’s “Creative Correction” (will be doing a post on this one soon), and “Love and Respect” by Emerson Eggerichs. Hmmm…after seeing my list: there’s one about parenting, one about marriage, and one about motherhood. Yep, that about sums it up!!! 🙂

I found your blog from someone else’s blogroll. I clicked on the link b/c of the title of your blog. LOVE it. I have four boys and I joke that there’s testosterone coming out of the faucets over here at our house. It’s crazy. I love being a “boy” mom though and I can relate to many of the things you have written. I have a list of books and authors I love on my blog, too. Have a wonderful day!
